May 2018, Pam and I flew from Colorado to London on our way to Sicily. We spent a few days visiting our friend Malcolm in London and touring the city.
Then we flew into Catania, Sicily and took a chartered bus to our first hotel in Noto. This bike trip is based out of 2 hotels and rides are out to area villages or features and back to the hotel. The rides ranged from 28 to 48 miles and 1400 to 3960 feet of elevation climbing. The only required ride was on day 4 when we travel to the second hotel (37 miles and 3960 feet of elecation gain) in Ragusa Ibla. Built in to the schedule was a couple days of rest/ independant touring, as well as a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Valley of the Temples. Greek built temples, then under roman control, and the Temple of Concordia converted to a Christian Church. Our visit in Ragusa Ibla coincided with the Festa di San Giorgio where a statue of San Giorgio and a huge silver casket containing the saint’s relics are then carried out of the Basilica and paraded through the streets of the city. The trip wraps up with 2 last days of riding and a long flight home.
