May 2019, Pam and I traveled to Barcelona, Spain. We spent a few days touring in Barcelona, then catching our flight to Mallorca (Majorca), and Island to the east of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. Arriving in the capital city of Palma and taking a taxi to our hotel in Playa de Palma. From here our 14 day biking adventure started.
The first day was a local ride to check the bikes and get ready for the second day when we will ride across the island to Port de Pollenca through the rolling heartland of Mallorca, about 47 miles. The next 2 days were spent exploring the area and pennisula.
Day 5, we travel to Campanet and spend that next day exploring the caves of Campanet.
Day 7, we travel to Port de Soller for a 3 night stay. This was one of the big days of riding, 4070 feet of elevation climbing and 32 miles. Additional rides are always availabe, but we took a boat tour one day and did some local hiking. Our visit coinsided with the Es Firo Festival celebration of the region’s defense against Moorish invaders in 1561. Es Firó draws in thousands of costumed revellers to the Port de Sóller to reenact the unsuccessful Moorish siege of the island.
Day 10 is a travel day to Banyalbufar for 3 nights and an opportunity to explore the village.
Day 13, we ride back to Playa de Palma and prepare to leave the folowing day. Pam and I flew back to Barcelona to see some more of the town before flying home to Colorado.
